Like many artists who use cultural and ethnic heritage as a source of inspiration for his art, modern American art has deep African roots in Africa. The emphasis of many African American artists, the Southern Region of the United States is also significant in the composition and the subject of his work. There is growing awareness of this unique form of expression and artists who create the works. For many years the African American Art has been tagged as crafts and seriously underestimated. Fortunately, this trend is changing and people of all ethnicities and lifestyles have more opportunities to see and learn the art of modern African-American. To better appreciate these artists, it is important to look at some of the African American artists who paved the road.

O. Henry Tanner (1859-1937) is known for his work " Banjo Lesson. "Initially, his work reflects the black experience and their impressions of this life. Later in life, he said, the modern African American art with works of religious influence. Mr. Tanner made several trips to the Holy Land to find inspiration for their art.

As expected, Slavery in the United States was often plays an important role in modern art, African-Americans. This is especially true of the work of Claude Clark. A Georgia native, he has his own style of work with strong themes and South Africa. His style is straightforward and the intention of his work is clear. One of his most famous "Slave Lynching" comment is evident in the social climate the days of slavery.

It is not likely to be an art lover I never heard of the Harlem Renaissance. Aaron Douglas did some of his best work on the period. The mural paintings of the Harlem Renaissance are popular and some of Douglas's work can be seen in libraries and public buildings in this way. Its sources inspirational favorites were important people and important events in African American history. Aaron Douglas went on after painting his magnificent murals to inspire others interested in modern art, African-American Fisk University. His influence is felt throughout the art world until now 27 years after his death.

An artist African-American female who has strongly affected the modern era, African American art is Clementine Hunter. It did not start painting until the age of 40. His work is simple in two dimensions, illustrating Southern life through their eyes. Much to consider whether one of the biggest artists coming from the south. His painting blacks was first recognized in the 1950 and continues to inspire.

Regardless of the media and the selected topic, Modern African American Art is finally getting attention and praise it deserves. Thanks to the many exceptional artists who gave the world an image of a little about the culture from which they came, young artists and future African Americans have an easier path to follow to receive the recognition they deserve. Great things can come the lessons of these past artists.

Mr. Moyo Ogundipe has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Ife, Ile-Ife, Nigeria and a Master of Fine Arts in painting from the Hoffberger School of Painting, Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, USA.

One of the most famous artist and known contemporary African African American, Mr. Ogundipe has exhibited extensively in Africa, Europe and USA. His paintings have been described as hypnotic, colorful and density of reasons.

In 1996, Mr. Ogundipe was awarded the Pollock-Krasner. And in 2005 he was invited to join Africobra, an organization founded in 1960 and whose members include distinguished African-American artists.
